Atoms for Peace: Thom Yorke & Nigel Godrich on BBC... →
“This exclusive two-hour mix features previously unreleased Radiohead material, new tracks from Thom Yorke and music from Doom, Phon-o, Aphex Twin, Diplo and DJ Slugo.”
This will only be up for 4 more days. So get on it. 2 hours of listening time, but trust me- it won’t be enough.

Creativity
The more I reflect on the takeaways from my college experience, the more I realize that I became more trained in how to compartmentalize tasks than to think outside of the box. While that may render me a more efficient member of society in some respects, I can’t help but wonder how much of a detriment that will be to my long-term goals and dreams for the future.
My point? We need to look...

Do you know this painting? Guernica, by Picasso
@Culturizando
On April 26, 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, and per the order of Francisco Franco, German aviation bombed the Basque town of Guernica.
A few weeks later, Picasso began to paint the enormous mural known as Guernica, which he completed in less than two months. Guernica was commissioned by the...

The Road Not Traveled →
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim Because it was grassy and wanted wear, Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally...

Another trip to Capitol Hill Books
Lazy Sundays are the best. Especially when you’re passing your time perusing the local jewelry vendors, yellow peach samples, antique booths, and Mason jar collectors (ahem) of Eastern Market. But arguably the best part of my Sundays as of late are the trips to Capitol Hill Books, a row house dedicated ceiling-to-floor of books, books, and more books. In all seriousness, this place is so...

Capitol Hill Books
Found some amazing books last week at Eastern Market’s treasure-trove used bookstore. Picked up some Hemingway, Dante, and a biography of Franco by El País. Almost bought a coffee table book of “Iberian Villages”……. almost.
I’ll post some translation tidbits from the Franco book soon.
Attention to detail
Those times when you blurt something out loud, as some kind of compulsory test-run. And immediately after the words have been released do you become aware of a truth you did not know, one that slept until it was awakened by your own voice.

Looking to turn this blog into something of an aggregation of the thoughts that flee in and out of my mind, particularly the ones that occur out of the blue, which often can be the most earth-shattering. Also hoping to intertwine that theme with...
The time I lived in Rome feels so far away. It’s like phantom limb syndrome; I mourn its absence like a missing arm, and I carry its (lack of) presence everywhere I go. Rome embodies all that I have culminated as a human being, capable of achieving something uniquely and infinitely my own. All at once, I both lived my greatest dream and realized an undying passion for something I am really,...

Guillén translation tidbit...
More so than I am: I can be. I breathe. Deep is the air. Reality invents me, I am its legend. Rejoice!
Respiro. Lo profundo es el aire. La realidad me inventa....
How beautiful is this?!?
Soy, más: estoy. Respiro.
Lo profundo es el aire.
La realidad me inventa,
Soy su leyenda. ¡Salve!

I’m thinking I should have gotten my degree in Translation & Spanish Literature instead of business administration… Whoops.

Dream of you
Let me dream of you tonight,
Let me imagine my lips on yours,
Let me believe that I make you go wild,
Let me be the one to take off your clothes,
Let my hands brush yours,
Let me wrap my arms around your waist,
Let me wait for you, even if you never come back,
Let me let you take pity on a fool like me.
If, some day, I found a way, a way to make you mine,
Always I would love you, as I do...

My first Zenet translation
I decided to translate this album because I’ve loved it for over a year now. It brought a certain magic to my time in Spain. I can transport myself back to different, individual moments each time I listen to “Mares de China” - I never feel the same way each time I hear it.
The first track, “Soñar contigo”, is arguably the best; it is one of the most romantic songs...
