Fresh leaf of paper
So crisp, blank, unused.
The potential is overwhelming, and I wonder if
I am the first to touch this clean sheet,
The first to recognize it for its possibility,
The first to wonder why we we take the simplest things for granted.
Some elements of your life should remain constant but
Count your blessings for
Rarely does anything stay the same.
Maybe the way it’s supposed to be
Isn’t the way it is,
And usually, the way it is
Isn’t the way it’s supposed to be.
Sometimes the only way to keep yourself
In check is to
Lose faith in the world, humanity,

The more I reflect on the takeaways from my college experience, the more I realize that I became more trained in how to compartmentalize tasks than to think outside of the box. While that may render me a more efficient member of society in some respects, I can’t help but wonder how much of a detriment that will be to my long-term goals and dreams for the future.

My point? We need to look into homogenization as an overarching theme in higher education and how that is affecting my generation’s capacity to truly think critically and creatively.

My instinct tells me that I need to hit the reset button in order to get back in touch with the creativity that resides within me. Because it is possible to be both creatively stimulated and a dynamo at your job. I’ll let you know when I find a way to achieve this coveted balance. I promise you, I will do it.
